The Semi-Circle was organized in 1977. After much discussion, we came up with "The Semi-Circle" as the name that best describes our approach to the United Methodist Women. The word "circle" implies something that is closed and we want our group to be always open to any woman at Wesley Memorial. Membership in this circle will never be static; besides easy access to the group, there will also be easy leaving. No one will feel they must remain in this group. Thus, the word "semi", indicating our open approach. Many of our members are long standing, experienced UMW members, but many are new to the organization, another reason for the word "semi", showing perhaps a less traditional approach to the UMW. We also want to remain open to new ideas about programs, service, and mission. We consider ourselves as much a part of the UMW's larger organization as our sister groups at Wesley. Our programs are a mix of UMW material and other sources. We meet regularly on the last Thursday night of each month, and invite any Wesley woman who is not now in a UMW circle to share in our fellowship. |
