Page 1

Sept. 10, 1998

Members of local EMS agencies participated in a mock Mass Casualty Incident coordinated by WARS on Thursday, September 10, 1998 at 1800 hours in order to better prepare members of area agencies for future incidents which place a strain on manpower. The event was held at the ConAgra Frozen Foods Plant in Crozet, VA.  The mock accident was staged as a chemical explosion in the building and approximately 35 mock patients (represented by local residents) were attended to.  Fire units set up a decontamination area for all out coming patients and the Fire and Tactical Rescue teams staged a confined-space rescue.  Patients were first treated in a triage area according to severity of injuries and then transported to "mock hospitals," created to represent UVA Medical Center, Martha Jefferson Hospital, and Augusta Medical Center.  The incident was very successful and some pictures of the activities follow.
