The Central Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects awarded its 2006 Chapter Citation to the Rivanna Trails Foundation "for developing, constructing and protecting more than twenty miles of an urban foot trail system which follows the watershed of the Rivanna River and its tributaries and allows for pedestrian hikers to circle the City of Charlottesville."

Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine's 2006 Readers' Choice Awards lists the Rivanna Trail at #9 in the Top Ten Favorite Running Trails category.
