Jack Jouett Chapter
|
Organized on February 13, 1922, the Jack Jouett Chapter, National Society Daughters of
the American Revolution took its name from Captain Jack Jouett, Jr., "The Paul
Revere of the South." On the night of June 4, 1781, Captain Jouett rode 40
miles from the Cuckoo Tavern in Louisa County to Monticello to warn Governor
Thomas Jefferson and the Virginia General Assembly of Colonel Banastre
Tarleton's march to capture the group.
The Chapter sponsors many activities and projects that promote the objectives of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: History, Education and Patriotism. Perpetuating the memory of Captain Jouett's courageous ride and his other accomplishments is one of the Chapter's ongoing projects.
