Dec 16, 2006... Swan Tavern Border Morris danceout a great success on a beautiful day for dancing. We danced this year's five dance set [Upton-on-Severn Hankie Dance, The Long Ho, Peopleton Hankie Dance, Not-for-Joe, and Yardley Gobien (aka Zig-zag)] four times at various locations on the Charlottesville downtown mall to good-sized crowds. We bagged on behalf of The Emergency Food Bank that serves Charlottesville and Albemarle County. We contributed over $200 to their cause. If you missed it, our next Swan Tavern event is on December 15, 2007. Dancers and musicians present included Bill Davick, Bill Davis, Joe Fallon, George Frick, Fred Hean, Rich Keffert, Peter Kleeman, Nick Kuhn, Jim Morrison, Jim Riosa, Will Sessoms, and Steven Summerville.

Swan Tavern Border Morris Men Performed on December 16, 2006
next performance December 15, 2007

Every December the Albemarle Morris Men and a few other hearty men dance "traditional" Border Morris dances in celebration of the Winter Solstice. We dance the third Saturday in December every year (weather permitting) on the Charlottesville downtown mall from about noon until dark.  We perform sets of about five dances at various locations on the downtown mall among the holiday vendors and other festivities. A photo of the Swan Tavern Border Morris Men from c. 1985 just prior to that year's dancing is given below.  Listen for the sound of fiddle, Concertina, Melodeon, and Tambourine and look for dancers in blue jeans and tail coats (our current kits) on December 15, 2007 - that will be us!

Practice for the 2007 Border Morris season begins on Tuesday November 13, 2007.  Practices will be every Tuesday from 7:00-8:45 pm at the McIntire Room of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library located at 201 East Market Street, Charlottesville VA [ Library directions, etc. ]

New dancers are welcome -- Contact Steven Summerville (our Squire) or any of the Albemarle Morris Men for information on how you can get involved.
