Albemarle Chapter Community Awards
Awards given by the NSDAR always start with nominees
from local chapters. These awards were developed to promote
knowledge, loyalty and love of country in the hearts and minds of
American citizens, whether naturalized or citizens by birth. Information

DAR Good Citizens Award
This award was established in 1934. This award is
to recognize and
reward senior high school students who
possess the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service,
leadership, and patriotism in home school and community. Albemarle
Chapter presents an award to a student in each of the three high schools
sponsored by the chapter. Please

Good Citizenship Medal
This award is presented to girls and boys in elementary,
junior high school and senior high schools who fulfill the qualities of honor,
service, courage, leadership and patriotism. One medal per grade
may be given. Contact us for

ROTC Medals
ROTC medals and campaign bars
may be awarded to student cadets of
outstanding ability and achievement in secondary
school, junior college, college or university ROTC programs of
the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps and the Naval Sea Cadets
Units. A student must have demonstrated qualities of dependability and
good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability
and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of
ROTC training. The Albemarle Chapter awards an ROTC gold medal
to a University of Virginia graduating senior in the Navy ROTC
Program. A bronze medal is awarded to a graduating senior in
the Air Force Jr. ROTC program at Monticello High School.
Americanism Medal
The DAR Americanism Medal was established as an award
in February 1958. It is given to an adult man or
woman who has been a naturalized United States citizen
for at least five years and has fulfilled the required
qualifications following naturalization. DAR
Americanism Medal recipients must have shown outstanding
qualities of trustworthiness, leadership, patriotism and
service. They must have actively assisted other aliens to become
American citizens or displayed outstanding ability in community affairs.
Medal of Honor
The Medal of Honor was authorized by the executive committee in
1972. This award is given to an adult
man or woman who is a United States citizen by birth and has shown
outstanding qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service and
patriotism. A Medal of Honor recipient must have made unusual and
lasting contributions to our American Heritage. The Albemarle
Chapter was pleased to have presented this award in 1999.
Community Service Award
This award recognizes worthy residents from a variety of walks of
life for outstanding achievement in cultural, educational,
humanitarian, patriotic and citizenship endeavor, and historical or
environmental conservation. The recipient should have
contributed to his/her community in a praiseworthy manner through
civic and benevolent activities or acts of heroism. The
Albemarle Chapter presented this award in March 2004.
